In oral candidiasis, normal mouth yeast overgrows, causing white, slightly elevated lesions. The overgrowth of yeast (candida) in this infant's mouth has caused cracking of the lips. The white lesions on the tongue are typical of candidiasis.

Overview
Oral candidiasis, more popularly referred to as thrush, is a very common disease caused by an overgrowth of yeast in the mouth and/or throat. The most common yeast causing thrush is called Candida albicans.
