Inflammation of the lips themselves is called chilitis. Chapped lips are a simple form of chilitis due to cold and dry weather. Angular chilitis involves the corners of the mouth and is often due to bacterial or fungal infections. Actinic chilitis is caused by long-term sun exposure and is considered precancerous.
