Adult :: Female :: Lips
On the page below, you will find pictures and information concerning several conditions that affect the lips in adults. The lips are a prominent part of the face, and a rash or sore here can be difficult to ignore and hide. Cold sores (orofacial herpes) are a common viral infection that involve the lips. Inflammation of the lips themselves is called chilitis. Chapped lips are a simple form of chilitis due to cold and dry weather. Angular chilitis involves the corners of the mouth and is often due to bacterial or fungal infections. Actinic chilitis is caused by long-term sun exposure and is considered precancerous. Exposure to the sun over many years can eventually lead to skin cancers such as melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
