Adult :: Female :: Sole
Click the images below to view information about the many conditions that can affect the sole of the feet in adults. Many of the problems that affect the sole can be the result of wearing shoes. For example, uncomfortable thickening of the soles such as corns and calluses are caused by chronic rubbing and friction from ill-fitting shoes. Plantar warts, caused by the same viruses that cause common warts, are flat warts that often grow on the soles. The sole is also a common site of athlete's foot infections. Pitted keratolysis is a condition that is unique to the palms and soles. It causes a cratering of the skin and is often associated with a bacterial infection that creates a foul odor.
