Click the images below to see information about conditions that can affect the hand in adults. The hand is a complicated set of tissues that work together as one of the most functional parts of our bodies, so the hand is crucial to physical interaction with the environment around us. Because of this, the most common skin problems involving the hand are environmental injuries. Irritant contact and allergic contact dermatitis are very common to the hand due to all of the chemicals to which the hand is exposed. Sun damage (eg, sunburn, skin cancer) also frequently affects the hand. Some chronic skin conditions are common to the hand as well, such as psoriasis. Please refer to the pages of specific parts of the hand for more information.
